What you need
- The document as a PDF, or a photo or scan (PNG or JPEG).
- The recipient's fax number, including the country code for international faxes.
- An account with an online fax service.
1. Prepare the document
Fax machines print in black and white at a modest resolution, so clear, dark text on a white page works best. Remove blank pages and check the page order. If you have several files, put them in the order the recipient should read them.
2. Enter the fax number
Type the full number. For a number in the United States or Canada that is +1 followed by ten digits. Double-check it: a fax to a wrong number usually fails after a few rings, but it can also reach a machine you did not intend.
3. Add a cover sheet (optional)
A cover sheet tells the recipient who the fax is for, who sent it and how many pages to expect. It is common for offices that share one fax machine. See our fax cover sheet guide.
4. Send and follow the status
After you confirm, the service queues the fax, dials the number and transmits the pages. In faxB2B you see each step: queued, sending, and then delivered or failed. A busy line or no answer is retried automatically a few times.
5. Keep the confirmation
When the receiving machine confirms every page, the fax is delivered. faxB2B then creates a PDF receipt with the date, the number and the page count, so you can show that it went through.
