The four stages
- Queued. Accepted and waiting for a line. Nothing has been dialled.
- Sending. The fax is being dialed or transmitted; check its detailed stage for progress.
- Delivered. The receiving machine confirmed the transmission to our carrier.
- Failed. The call ended without a complete transmission; the reason is on the record.
A fax you have prepared but not confirmed is not queued yet, and a queued fax can still be cancelled.
What delivered does and does not mean
Delivered means the machine at the other end acknowledged the pages. It does not mean anyone has taken them out of the tray, and it does not mean anyone has read them. If you need to know that a person acted on the fax, contact the recipient. Treat the status as a transmission confirmation and nothing more.
When a failure is retried by itself
A busy line, an unanswered call, a dropped connection or a temporary carrier problem is worth another call, so faxB2B places one. By default that is up to three calls in total, with default pauses of two and five minutes before the retries. An owner can change this in Settings: one to five calls, and each pause between one and sixty minutes.
When it is not retried
A wrong or unassigned number, a voice line that answered, a declined call, a document the carrier could not read and a destination we are not allowed to dial are all final. Redialling them would only waste time, so the fax stops and shows you the reason. Fix the cause, then send again.
Your record of the send
When a fax is delivered, faxB2B builds a PDF receipt with the date and time, the number it went to and the page count; an organization can include a thumbnail of the first page. Pages are counted on what went across: a call that sent nothing costs no pages, and a call that stopped halfway counts only the pages that went through.
