1. The number is wrong
Reasons that say the number is not valid, does not exist, or is not a fax number. No retry will help. Get the number again from the recipient in international form, check for a missing digit, and confirm it is the fax line rather than the switchboard.
2. The receiving machine misbehaved
Reasons about the two machines failing to agree, the connection dropping partway, or the receiving machine reporting an error. These are worth another call and are redialled automatically. If they repeat, the recipient equipment needs attention — ask them to check for paper, a jam, or a full memory.
3. The document could not be processed
Reasons about a file the carrier could not read, a document too large, or too many pages. Fix the file rather than resending it: export a plain PDF, compress it, or split it. See reducing the file size.
4. The network or our side was busy
Reasons about all lines being busy, a carrier timing out, or our carrier not being reachable. An attempt that transmitted no pages uses no pages of your plan. These retry by themselves; if the whole batch fails this way, wait a few minutes rather than resending immediately, and write to support if it persists.
5. A limit stopped it before the call
Premium-rate and special-service numbers are blocked, and countries that are not enabled are refused. faxB2B sends to the US, Canada and countries of the European Union. Nothing was dialled and nothing was charged. Contact support if you need a destination we do not reach yet.
Before you resend
- Read the reason on the fax record and match it to the causes above.
- Check whether retries are still scheduled — if so, wait.
- If the document changed after you prepared the fax, prepare it again rather than retrying.
- Keep the failed record. It is the history of what was attempted.
