How to get the number
- Start the trial with your work email and company name, and enter the six-digit code we email you.
- Set up two-factor sign-in with an authenticator app. Every account needs it before the console opens.
- Open Numbers, choose the US or Canada and a local or toll-free number, and narrow the search by state or province, city, area code or the digits it should contain.
- Pick one. It shows as ordering until the carrier confirms it, then as active, and faxes sent to it arrive in your inbox.
Owners and admins of the organization choose and manage numbers; members use them.
What the number does
- Receives faxes as PDFs. Each one appears in the inbox with the caller number, the time and the page count. See how receiving works.
- Goes to the inbox or to one person. Give each number a label and send its faxes to the shared inbox, or straight to a colleague, so one number can serve a department.
- Sends. Your default number is the one your outgoing faxes come from.
- Tells people a fax arrived. The email has a partly hidden number and a sign-in link, never the document.
Numbers in the trial and in the plan
| Option | Numbers | Cost of a number |
|---|---|---|
| Free trial | One while the trial runs | Included |
| Team | Up to 3 per organization | 1 included, then $5 a month each |
| Larger teams | Several numbers | Talk to us |
If a plan ends, or a trial ends without one, the number is kept for 30 days and then released.
Keep the number you already have
A US or Canadian fax number printed on your forms can be moved instead of replaced. From Numbers, send a transfer request with the current carrier, the account holder and service address, and a signed Letter of Authorization. Our team reviews each request and arranges the move with the carriers by hand. Keep the current service running until the transfer is confirmed, so faxes keep arriving there in the meantime.
Limits worth knowing
- Numbers for receiving are available in the US and Canada. Sending reaches the US, Canada and countries of the European Union.
- A particular area code may have no free numbers at the carrier; the search shows what is available.
- Received faxes are PDFs with default limits of 20 MB and 100 pages; if processing rejects a larger fax, ask the sender to split it.
- Releasing a number is permanent. Nobody can take it during the quarantine that follows, and then it goes back to the carrier.
