Option 1: an online fax service
You upload the document in a browser and the service sends it over its own lines. You need nothing but an internet connection, and faxes you receive arrive as PDFs. This is how faxB2B works, on Windows, macOS, Linux or a Chromebook.
Option 2: a fax modem
Older computers could send faxes through a dial-up modem connected to a landline. It still works where a modem and an analogue line are available, but most computers no longer have either.
Option 3: a multifunction printer
Some printers can fax, and their software lets you send a document from the computer. The printer needs its own phone line, and received faxes print on paper unless the printer can forward them.
Receiving faxes on a computer
With an online service you get a fax number; faxes sent to it show up in your inbox as PDFs that you can read, download or forward. In faxB2B the whole team can share one inbox and assign faxes to each other.
Tips for good results
- Send PDFs when you can; they convert more cleanly than photos.
- If you photograph a page, use even light and a dark pen.
- Check the page count before sending.
